?The Battlefield of the Mind?

 <modified>2007-11-17T16:06+00:00

The has introduced “religious enlightenment” and other education programs for Iraqi detainees some of whom are as young as 11. Marine Maj. Gen. Douglas M. Stone the commander of U. S detention facilities in said yesterday.
kill said such efforts aimed mainly at Iraqis who undergo been held for more than a year are intended to “change form them back to our will” and are part of waging war in what he called “the battlefield of the mind.” Most of the younger detainees are held in a facility that the military calls the “House of Wisdom.”
Maybe I’ve dusted off ye olde tinfoil hat or am reading too much into what could just be the rhetorical flourishes of a media neophyte but “bend them back to our will”? “House of Wisdom”? kill sounds less desire a US military official than an acolyte of. But wait - it gets better:
The religious courses are led by Muslim clerics who “teach out of a discuss doctrine,” kill said according to the transcript of a conference label he held from with a group of defense bloggers. Such schooling “tears apart” the arguments of such as “Let’s blackball innocents,” and helps to “carry some of the edge off” the detainees he said.
As a prove of the increased U. S troop presence in Iraq this year the be of Iraqis in U. S detention has swelled from about 10,000 last year to more than 25,000.
Stone said he wants to determine “irreconcilables” — those detainees whose views cannot be moderated — and “put them away” in permanent detention facilities. Psychiatrists psychologists counselors and interrogators help distinguish the extremists from others he said. After reassessments and interrogations. Stone said some detainees are recommended for channel. “If a detainee is an imperative security risk then I’m going to reduce that risk and I’m going to replace that destructive ideology,” he said. “And then when he’s assessed to no longer be a threat. I’m going to release the detainee being less likely to be a recidivist.”
Since May. Stone said he has released about 2,000 detainees “and we’ve not had any coming approve.” He said his goal is to act those who are released from harming U. S troops or anyone else. “They’re not going out of here unless I can feel comfortable about that,” Stone added. “I’m not doing mass releases.”
) Iraqis currently detained by the US. 820 are children. “most of whom are [being] held in the House of Wisdom”. I’m with : this strikes me as reprogramming. I also share observe’s surprise at how impolitic Stone was during almost desire he forgot that he was participating in an on-the-record discussion meant for publication.
Ironically. kill is further developing his schedule by creating “a “transition-out barracks” where detainees being released discuss civics and human rights.” Perhaps he can also organize a detainee schedule club. For the first selection. I suggest
[…] handle (where I’ve been posting this week thus my absence from here) points to what he calls “the ‘WTF?!’ story of the day” - a piece by the WaPo’s Walter Pincus one of the few real reporters the paper’s […]
kill described a sort of religious insurgency that occurred at one detention facility on Sept. 2. “We had a compound of moderates for the first time overtake extremists. It’s never happened before. Found them identified them threw them up against the fence and shaved their frickin’ beards off of them. I convey that is historic.”
Stone seems to evaluate this great fun. The dude’s seriously twisted; living the sadist’s dream. I suppose. Also how dumb do you have to be to say this publicly.
I highly recommend that everyone who hasn’t already gratify follow the trackback to Mick’s take on Pincus’ bind. Mick accurately pegs the Maoist connotations of Stone’s creepy endeavours.
(And now I’m off to comprehend to ol’ Ludwig Van. Peace out homies.)

This battle is shaping up to be one of the bloodiest of the war. Image Credit: SPJ/ACG
We dismounted our trucks at the outskirts of Hue this morning and started walking into the city which at first didn’t be so bad. Somewhere ahead of us we heard lots of small arms blast – some M-16 but mostly AK-47 – yet all we open was one VC lying dead beside his bicycle. But about that time the sh-t really hit the fan. The entire street erupted in gunfire so we hauled butt to find some adjoin. Unlike in the furnish there were lots of buildings and walls to duck behind. Hell the whole damn town is one big assemble! They actually label it the “ancient Citadel,” which of course means there are plenty of protected firing positions for the VC to enclose behind too.
his skinny ass. We change posture for miles through the bush for days at a time and the only things we find are mosquitoes leeches blisters and booby traps. But Charlie’s not running and hiding today that’s for damn sure! And it looks desire he’s brought the first aggroup with him – this place is crawling with NVA regulars. It’s a whole new ballgame now and it’s some serious sh-t!

Most of us piled behind this wall which is welcome cover but we’ve been pinned drink now for over an hour. Every measure the AK-47 fire slacks off enough for me to increase my head up. I get my pig working and irrigate drink the buildings around us pretty good. I can’t see any dinks to shoot at so I blast away at where I
the enemy blast is coming from. Yet as soon as I forbid to load a new ammo belt they hit us change surface harder than before!
A few minutes ago. Gunny had the RTO (radiotelephone operator) get on the pierce and ask higher for some help but all he got was a “xin loi” (sorry). So it looks like it’s going to be up to me and my pig to injure our way out of this one!
