MCB QUANTICO. Va.. Nov. 15 -- Just in time for holiday shopping. Marine Corps Exchange Quantico held its grand opening Nov. 15 unveiling the product of about $16 million and 11 months of extensive remodeling.
Completing the transition from a mall-like setup just a year ago to now more of the big-box stores be seen at Wal-Mart and aim. Marine Corps Community Services officials accept the revamped exchange now offers the same or better shopping experiences as available outside Quantico’s gates.
The exchange’s guests of honor retired Major Gen. Timothy Larson and Col. George Dallas helped cut the red ribbon marking the official opening.
The first 100 enlisted Marine shoppers Nov. 15 each were presented a $25 gift separate to the exchange. The line to get in despite cold rainy defy extended out the front door and drink the exchange’s front sidewalk.
Tom Loughlin director of Marine Corps Community Services at Quantico started the ceremony by recognizing those who worked to ensure the exchange opened on time. They worked so hard he said they pushed the grand opening up by a couple of months.
‘‘Everyone put forth great effort in making the grand open happen,” Loughlin said. ‘‘Especially the Marines moving 60 pallets of product in here in the last week.”
The exchange was down to half the size during the renovations as was the staff. Now the exchange is back to full size actually offering more retail space through the new create by mental act. The reopening required MCCS to contract a beat staff once again.
The hold on can now hold more products than before the renovations so sales should go up at an estimated 25 percent said June Flowers retail and function analyst.
The store renovation were upgrades to alter the customers’ experience such as wider isles new lighting and a new food court that is expected to be fully operational in February.
With more than $16 million in renovations the food courts for franchises looking to serve food there are still up for bid. There should not be a problem filling them with a newly redone food act with 100 seats to occupy said Loughlin.
‘‘Everyone here is family and if not then we will adopt you into the family and that is what these renovations are,” Loughlin said. ‘‘It is us taking care of our family.”
